Jill Derby is making her second run for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District against one term Republican Congressman Dean Heller.The second district stretches from Reno near the California border to Las Vegas.
Background:
A career educator, Derby has taught at Western Nevada Community College, Sierra Nevada College, the National Judicial College and the University of California. She served 18 years on the Nevada Board of Regents. Derby earned a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from the University of California, San Francisco and a bachelor's, masters, and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, Davis.

The momentum in this race has definitely been moving in Derby's direction. A late August Reno Gazette-Journal poll showed the race within the 5% margin of error with Heller at 47% and Derby at 42% The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also upgraded Derby to its Red to Blue target list. Even the Cook report has upgraded this race from Likely Republican to Leaning Republican
