Debbie Halvorson

 

Debbie Halvorson, Democratic State Senate Majority Leader, is running for the House of Representatives in Illinois’ 11th Congressional District. The seat is currently occupied by Republican Jerry Weller, who is retiring this fall. The district is in the north-eastern part of the state, and includes the city of Bloomington.

Background:
Debbie Halvorson has served in the Illinois State Senate since 1997, and is the first woman elected to be Senate Majority Leader. In the Senate, she is an advocate for Women’s Rights. Halvorson currently serves as a lecturer at her alma mater, Governor’s State University. Prior to becoming a State Senator, she served as the Clerk of Crete Township for three years, and was a small business owner for fourteen. She has a Bachelors degree in Communications and a Masters Degree in Communications and training from Governor’s State University, as well as degrees from Robert Morris College, Prairie State University.
