Christine Jennings
Christine Jennings is running for the House of Representatives in Florida’s 13th district against anti-abortion incumbent Republican Vern Buchanan. This is the former seat of Secretary of State Katherine Harris. The district is located on the Southwest coast in the area of Sarasota. In 2006, this was the closest Congressional race in the country. Jennings lost by only 370 votes.
Background:
Jennings was the owner of Sarasota Bank until she retired in 2004. She entered the banking business as a teller when she was 17. Christine Jennings has been active in many civic and charitable organizations such as Florida Women’s Alliance, Community AIDS Network, United Negro College Fund, Sierra Club, International Women’s Forum, National Council of Jewish Women and Mental Health Association of Sarasota County.
