Betsy Markey

Betsy Markey is running against right-wing Republican incumbent Marilyn Musgrave for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. The fourth district includes the city of Fort Collins and the surrounding area in the north-central part of the state. In the last two Congressional elections, the city of Fort Collins has proven to be a democratic stronghold.

Background:
From January 2005 through May of 2007, Markey served as the Regional Director for the north central and high plains region of Colorado in the office of U.S. Senator Ken Salazar. From 2002 to 2005, Betsy Markey served as the Chair of the Larimer County Democratic Party. In 2001, Markey founded the Northern Colorado Democratic Business Coalition. Betsy has been honored by the National Association of Female Executives, National Association of Women Business Owners, Who’s Who in American Women and Pi Alpha Alpha (the National Honor Society for Public Administrators). She has a BS in Political Science from the University of Florida and a Masters degree in Public Administration, with an emphasis in public finance, from American University.

District leans Republican, but Musgrave was elected with only 46% of vote in 2006. Markey is viewed to have a strong chance of upsetting Musgrave. Race rated by Cook Report as a toss up. DCCC status: Red to Blue.
