Jill Morgenthaler is running for Illinois’ 6th Congressional District against freshman anti choice Republican Peter Roskam. In 2006, Roskam defeated Democrat Tammy Duckworth by a few thousand votes. The 6th district of Illinois includes parts of Dupage and Cook counties, including the city of Wheaton and O’Hare Airport.

Background:
Jill served as the Illinois Homeland Security Director until November 2007, when she resigned her position to run for Congress. While she has never served in elected office, Morgenthaler has 30 years experience in the Army, and is a retired Colonel. She has lived in Des Plaines for the past seventeen years. Jill has a Bachelors degree in economics from the Penn State University, a Masters in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.

Positions on Key Issues:

  • Supports: Reproductive rights, Creating a plan to safely withdrawal troops, Balanced Budget, Immigration Reform (no amnesty, secure borders)

Opponent Positions on Key Issues:

Prospects:
The District leans Republican, but the state has been moving increasingly to the Democratic column. Barack Obama will turn out a massive vote in Illinois. The incumbent, Peter Roskam, won his first term in 2006 with only 51% of the vote. Morgenthaler has been linked to Abu Graib scandal – was Army spokeswoman when it broke
